Seared Lion's Mane Mushroom "Steak"
Grilled Lion’s Mane Mushroom Steak
Ingredients:
-
1 large Lion’s Mane mushroom (or 2 medium, cleaned and trimmed)
-
2 tablespoons olive oil or avocado oil
-
1 tablespoon soy sauce or coconut aminos
-
1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
-
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
-
1 teaspoon garlic powder
-
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
-
Freshly cracked black pepper
-
Sea salt, to taste
-
Optional: fresh thyme or rosemary sprigs
Instructions:
-
Prep the mushroom
Gently brush off debris; do not soak in water. Slice thickly if desired, or keep whole for a steak-like feel. -
Marinate
In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and a pinch of salt. Coat the mushroom thoroughly and let marinate for 15 to 30 minutes (or up to 1 hour for deeper flavor). -
Preheat your grill or skillet
Heat to medium-high. Lightly oil the grates or pan. -
Grill
Place the mushroom on the grill (or skillet). Cook for 4 to 5 minutes per side, pressing gently with a spatula to encourage browning and moisture release. You can add fresh thyme or rosemary on top while grilling for extra aroma. Watch carefully to make sure the edges don't burn. -
Finish
Once golden and crispy on the edges with a tender, meaty center, remove from heat. Sprinkle with sea salt and drizzle with a bit of olive oil or finishing salt before serving.
Serving Ideas:
-
Serve with garlic mashed potatoes and sautéed greens.
-
Slice and place over a salad or grain bowl.
-
Drizzle with chimichurri or balsamic reduction for a bright finish.
